then do it with all your strength."

We’re Mike & Sonja Trei (pronounced “tri”— which means “three”). We use biblical story-telling to disciple the tribal nations living in the Peruvian Amazon Jungle! You may be wondering why we use story-telling. Well, because that’s what Jesus did! And we want to see every nation come to know Jesus in a very personal way.
what is "the treifactor"
It's is a play on words using our last name to convey important principles guiding our ministry.
You may be familiar with the phrase, "The X factor.” Generally, it signifies something specific which will have a powerful influence on a result or outcome.
What is our desired result? To disciple tribal nations living in the Peruvian Amazon Jungle!

What makes our ministry so powerful?
#1. It's a three-way partnership between us, our supporters, and the national churchA “factor” can be “a doer; a person who does things for another person or organization.”
We are an extension of your ministry—your ambassadors so-to-speak. We represent you among these nations. We go in your place. Our strategy is to join hands and resources with the national church. With this collaboration we have a much larger, stronger, and better equipped team to reach the unreached. |

our history
We've been married since October 1997, although at that time, neither of us had been leading Christian lives. We met while we were both stationed at Osan Air Base, in the Republic of South Korea in 1993. In August 2000, we started attending Radiant Church full time and, later, recommitted our lives to God. Radiant valued missions and we had several friends involved with short-term trips. In 2004, we began our short-term-missions adventures. We were hooked on missions! While we had dreams of early retirement and globe-trotting to help missionary friends in any way we could, God had other plans! in 2011, AGWM approved us as Missionary Associates to Venezuela. Now, we are starting the next chapter of our story as fully appointed missionaries!
A little about mike
Mike is no stranger to large families. He is the second youngest child and has three older brothers, four older sisters and a younger brother. (His parents joked that they had a basketball team and the cheerleaders to go with it.) Both of his parents have lots of brothers and sisters as well--and you know what that means? Plenty of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins! His mother always referred to him as her "miracle baby" because she had no idea she was pregnant until she nearly miscarried. While originally from Tracey, Minnesota, his family moved to Copper Mountain, Colorado when he and his brother started high school.
Shortly after graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served as an Air Traffic Controller for 12 years. After separating in 1998, he returned to Colorado Springs and continued to work in air traffic at Fort Carson. Years later, he got his general contractor license and started building and remodels. He has two grown children: Amanda and Jonathon.

...and sonja
Sonja, on the other hand, grew up in a small family--the oldest of three girls--from upstate New York (the famous "Finger Lakes Region"). Like Mike, she enlisted in the Air Force and left for basic training after high school. She completed seven years as an Administration Specialist before trading her combat boots for a book bag in 1996. She and Mike married a year later.
After graduating from New Mexico State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Criminal Justice, she went on to attend the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. She received her law degree in May 2002 and received a license to practice in October. After a short time in private practice, she joined a Denver law firm in 2004 and was working there until leaving for the missions field.
